Don’t shoot the messenger but this Thursday see the start of December! I know… Where has the year gone? The office Christmas party was booked back in September and company planning for the New Year is well and truly underway, that includes recruitment. Brexit is still an unknown but the panic is over and employers are seeing growth and realising that it’s time to crack on.
Now, your last-minute shopping and present wrapping can wait until Christmas Eve but if you’re hoping to make a career step in the New Year then now is the time. If your notice period is 1 month and you interview in December, you still have the chance of January start. Kicking off the new year by taking the next step on the ladder, in a new company with fresh opportunities for progression on the table.
With good quality Surveyors in high demand and short supply, our clients are more aware than ever that to secure the best candidates they need to offer the best opportunities, with progression and packages to match. This is by far the best time that we’ve seen in 2016 for taking that next career step.
Forget your Christmas list, it’s time to start working on your careers list! You spend a huge proportion of our life at work, so what would make your working life better? It’s worth thinking long and hard about the following areas when considering a career step: –
A good recruiter won’t just take your CV, they’ll talk through all these important factors with you but it is worth having a think before you call us.
Now comes the task of updating your CV. If you already have one, an update is all that’s required. Our advice is to keep it simple. No fancy fonts, pictures or graphics, just show us what experience you have and where your skills lay. Show the person viewing your CV why they should employ you. Don’t miss anything out that may be relevant, the 2-page CV is outdated if you ask me. If the information is relevant and bleeds on to 3 pages… I still want to read it.
We always talk through CV’s in detail so don’t worry too much, we are happy to offer advice.
Send you CV over to HD Surveyors and even after we have read it we won’t send it out. We don’t send out CV’s without your permission, besides, we want to get to know you, your experience and your requirements for the future before we even start work. Once we’ve done this we’ll begin a bespoke job search based on your specific criteria, nothing bog standard here!
So, our inbox is freshly cleared, get in touch and tell us what your next career step will look like and we will help you find the perfect job to match.
